Measuring Your PD

What Is Pupillary Distance (PD)?

Pupillary Distance (PD) is the measurement, usually in millimeters, of the distance between the centers of your pupils. This measurement is critical in ensuring that your prescription lenses are aligned with your eyes’ optical centers. An accurate PD ensures that you receive the clearest vision possible, reducing eye strain and discomfort.

Step 1.

Stand in Front of a Mirror: Ensure you are in a well-lit area.

Step 2.

Position a Millimeter-Ruler: Hold the ruler steadily against your brow.

Step 3.

Look straight into the mirror and close one eye. Align the Ruler: Align the zero mark of the ruler with the center of your closed eye’s pupil.

Step 4.

Measure the Distance: Open your closed eye and close the other. Note the measurement at the center of the open eye’s pupil.
